Frisco’s Rail District is the city’s historic center—a neighborhood shaped by local commerce, civic institutions, longstanding businesses, and the railroad that helped establish the community.

The Railroad Created More Than a Stop
In 1902, the St. Louis–San Francisco Railway established a water stop west of the nearby community of Lebanon. Homes, businesses, and families soon followed the opportunity created by the tracks.
The settlement was first proposed as Emerson, but the name was rejected by postal officials. Residents then selected Frisco City in honor of the railway, later shortening it to Frisco.

As opportunity shifted toward the railroad, some Lebanon residents reportedly moved their homes to the new settlement on logs.
Agriculture Shaped Early Business
Frisco became a service, retail, and shipping point for surrounding farms and once supported several cotton gins.
The Name Still Tells the Story
Frisco’s name remains directly connected to the railway that helped establish the community.
